The bag is a great bag that meets all the needs of a traveling hobbyist photographer. The camera area is big enough to hold lenses and other items that may be fragile while hiking or traveling. The protection is top of the line and the comfort of a full bag is amazing. I do have problems witht he zippers of camera area because the fabric covering the zipper gets caught. Not that big of a deal since you can leave the zippers somewhat open and use the clips to keep the area securely closed.

Great Camera Pack

This camera pack perfectly and tightly holds a Nikon 70-200 2.8, a D300 with Grip and 24-70 2.8 attached and there is extra space for either an extra shorter lens, flash, or other equipment.

It would be nice if it came with either tie down straps that connected to the bottom tie downs or if there were loops on the side to hold a monopod.

There is ample room for a 15" MBP and I would assume that a 17" fits tightly. The padding on the back and shoulders is great as is the weight distribution system.

SPACIOUS & COMFORTABLE!!!

Tamrac Adventure 9 Photo/Computer Backpack (Grey/Black)

After having read many reviews in search of a backpack for both my Canon Rebel & 17-inch MacBook Pro I choose to go with this Tamrac and so far I've not been disappointed. Carrying my camera, 3 lenses and laptop with an external back-up drive there is still much room! Many pockets for various accessories. To my surprise, it is so well padded it even kept a couple of water bottles cold enough to drink hours after being on the beach on a hot day.

I really enjoy the comfortable straps. Whether on my back or just thrown over one shoulder, it is easy to carry for this 50+ year old with bad legs & low back pain. I've not used a backpack for many decades but this is definitely more comfortable than I expected. The top carrying handle comes in very handy also.

Awesome for traveling!

When I travel I like to limit the camera gear I take with me. I just went to Alaska and brought: canon 40d, canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS with lens hood, canon 17-40mm f/4.0L with lens hood, canon 50mm f/1.8, 15.4" dell laptop, 8gb memory card, 2 2gb memory cards, 1 1gb memory card, remote switch, a couple filters and a couple optech rain covers. Everything fit in this bag with ease and I was still able to throw my light coat into the top pocket.

When I'd take it out hiking or around town I'd just leave my laptop back at the hotel locked in the safe and it was pretty light. Incredibly convenient.

Tamrac offers straps to hold a tripod on the bottom for about $8 for a pack of two. They suck, don't get them. Figure out a way to engineer your own. They come loose too easily and will fall out. I've already lost mine. :(

Love this bag

Bought this bag for a trip to Yosemite and carried it for 7 days during daily hiking trips. The bag is comfortable and easily held my camera equipment + day hike essentials.

My camera equipment:
Konica Minolta 5D
Sony 18-200mm
Sigma 50-500mm (huge lens...equivalent to 70-200 f2.8 in size).
Sony 75-300mm
Sony 100mm Macro
Binoculars
Extra Batteries, Charger,
Misc
Monopod (hooked on outside of bag)

Day Pack Essentials:
Books (yosemite, etc)
Rain Jacket
2 Bottles of Water
First aid kit
misc

I liked it so much I am planning to buy the bigger Tamrac (adventure 10?) for longer hiking trips.

The only negative that I'd say about this was that it didn't come with any tie-down straps. I had to purchase these (bought 2 from REI for $5)...this one oversight is the only thing I can see wrong with this bag.
