Sony cyber shot- What a waste of money!

Two years ago,I received this camera as a Christmas gift from my husband.
The camera was great at first, then about 6 months ago the problems started. I can't get the mode to stay on the selected scene. The pictures are VERY blurred or too dark. There is also a delay in the taking pictures.I would not recommend this camera. Save your money!
initially happy but now disappointed

Bottom line: I would not purchase this camera again, even if it was on sale for $50.
I purchased the DSC-W7 about a year and a half ago to replace a DSC-S85 (absolutely loved that camera).
the W7 had great batter life and took good photos but I noticed that the indoor shots were not that great and often blurry or out of focus. I wrote the blurry off to the slow shutter speed due to limited aperture (hey, it is a small camera, what do you expect). But the out of focus and long focus times are annoying.
Loved the video capability!
Fast forward to present time. over the past 18 months I have noticed that battery life was decreasing. I wrote this off to the batteries wearing out (use sony AA 2300mah). Bought a new set about 4 months ago. Still had the same decreasing battery life problem even with the new batteries?!?. Now a fresh charged set won't last for even 10 sec!? clearly something is wrong with the camera. I have seen a few other posts on the net from owners with a similar problem. One took got a $250 repair estimate! I have switched back to my DSC-85 (took it back from the kids) which is still using the same lithium rechargeable that it came with 4-5 years ago!
BUYER BEWARE

I have owned a SONY DSC-W7 for approximately two years. This was the first digital camera I bought and am extremely disappointed. I didn't know how bad it was (since it was my first) until I started comparing pictures I took with that of my friends and family. Many of the pictures are blurry (regardless of the time of day or environment). The shutter speed is slow and I often miss action shots. If you want to count on your camera to capture all those precious moments, buy something else. Do not put a penny toward the SONY DSC-W7; it's not worth it...you will be disappointed.
Wouldn't buy again...

I've had this camera for a couple of years now. I'm a novice photographer and wasn't looking for anything fancy. At first I was happy with it, but after awhile I started to really dislike the delay between snapping the picture and it actually taking. A good couple of seconds that was enough to make it very difficult to take pictures of anything moving. Also after two years of occasional use, maybe a 1-2k pictures and the lens stuck. I was able to get it to retract with some light tapping on the lens, but you can tell by the sound of it that the gearing mechanism has started to strip effectively making it a paper weight.

I bought this camera over a year ago and haven't had any problems with it. Yeah sometimes I have got a blurry picture because of my hand movement not being still. 97% of the times my pictures come out clear, friends and family just love the way this camera pictures look. I have had so many compliments on how the color and quality of my pictures are. Majority of the times I 've been asked to email pictures. So I would recommend this camera.
