Questionable Quality

The VistaFrame has turned out to be more of a novelty, rather than a good piece of photo displaying equipment. The resolution of the pictues displayed is grainy. The further away you view the display, the better it appears. None the less, it is fun to display pictures like this without the necessity of the computer.

I purchased this digital picture frame after doing my homework, and reading all the reviews I could on the different kinds. The one I purchased was flawed, and would take 5 or 6 tries of inserting the memory card before I could get it to boot up. When it was running I was very disappointed with the quality of the pictures.
What the description of this product does not tell you is - the frame does not come with a usb cable- so it does not hook up to a computer. This means that you must either have all the pics you want to display already on a memory card from your camera, or that you must have/purchase a card reader to download the pics from your computer to your camera card.( A side note - if you have a Sony digital camera, Memory sticks do not allow you to back any pics onto them from your computer that were not taken in their format - so forget about using pics someone else sent, you took with another camera, or you reformatted with a photo program).
I went with the digital pic frame from Brookstone instead - far better quality, and MUCH more user friendly.

Have to disagree with previous poster - the Vialta Vistaframe is superb. I haven't seen any pixelation on my pix. I keep the frame on my desk at work and it is much admired. I love it to pieces. My only complaint is its price, when they eventually come down in price I'll get one for home use. Also the power-saving shutoff only kicks in after 2 hours which I think is too long.

The reasons I bought this one over others were:

* the card compatibility
* it's stand-alone, no need to upload/download pix via computer
* the size of its screen
* the classic metal frame itself - doesn't detract from the pix, indeed when it's on you don't see the frame.

Agree that a randomizer on the screenshow would be good, also would be nice to be able to specify how long the pics are on screen for.

The only thing stopping me buying another for myself or as gifts for family is the price. Love it.

A nice idea - execution still lacks

The Bad: These digital frames are a nice idea, but the execution is still lacking. The resolution is 384 x 234, but the pixalation looks even worse than that - they seem to be kind of widely spaced apart which adds to the effect. As a result, the pictures look much better from a little distance where astigmatism can help smooth them out.

The Good: The memory card reader and the interface work very well. It's easy to cue up a nice slideahow, though a randomizer on the transitions would be nice.

Conclusion: I paid around $200 for mine - it is a present for my grandmother. I think she'll get a kick out of it, but if I had to do it again I'd look for something with better resolution.
