Description
PIXMA iP5000-- Extreme Performance That Will Raise Your Expectations. MODEL- IP5000 VENDOR- CANON COMPUTER SYSTEMS FEATURES- PIXMA iP5000 Extreme Performance That Will Raise Your Expectations. This powerhouse printer combines next-generation print head technology with advanced 5-color printing, for fast, high- definition photos. Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a high-performance 1,856-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as 1 picoliter. The result? An amazing resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 color dpi, for detail and clarity unmatched by comparable printers. Plus, the ContrastPLUS 5-color ink system - with four dye-based inks plus a pigment-based black ink - produces true-life photos, along with laser-quality text. Your output will simply amaze you. The PIXMA iP5000 Photo Printer has the speed to match its exceptional quality. It can produce up to 25 ppm in black and up to 17 ppm in color, and a beautiful 4" x 6" borderless print takes only 36 seconds. It also features a new drive system that not only improves speed but reduces noise. Want to simplify your photo printing? Simply connect any PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, and print. It is that fast and easy! To reduce printing costs, the Canon Think Tank System has five individual ink tanks that lets you replace only the color that runs out, rather than an entire cartridge containing unused ink. Plus, a unique low-ink sensor alerts you when ink levels are low, so you are prepared to just drop in a new tank as needed.b
Printing professional quality photos from home has become a reality, thanks to easy-to-use photo printers like the Canon PIXMA ip5000. By combining five-color printing and a 1,856-nozzle print head that's capable of delivering superfine 1-picoliter ink droplets (up to 22 million droplets per inch), the ip5000 delivers stunningly accurate prints that should leave professional photo labs a little worried.
Color resolution is as high as 9,600 x 2,400 dpi, with black-and-white resolution of up to 600 x 600 dpi. Print speeds are as high as 25 ppm in black, 17 ppm in color, while a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo can take as little as 36 seconds. The same drive system responsible for the ip5000's improved print speeds also results in a low 34 dB(A) noise level. (All reported speeds are maximums. Actual speeds will vary.)
Precision Color Distribution Technology
Unlike other systems, nozzle configuration in Bubble Jet printers is simple, so it is easier to make them smaller and more dense. Using its superior semiconductor manufacturing technology, Canon has succeeded in developing an ultrahigh-precision, multinozzle print head. The problem of color inconsistency has been solved by positioning a mirror-image line of 128 nozzles (600 dpi pitch for each color) at a half-pitch offset from the existing line. This configuration also provides the added advantage of enabling high-resolution printing at 1,200 dpi.
Easy-PhotoPrint v3.0
While most photo-editing software applications will brighten the entire image, Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 accurately detects the subject's face and adjusts the skin to the optimum tone. Brighten dark faces caused by bright backgrounds. Choose from one-click automatic to correct the entire image all at once, or manual to correct just a selected area.
Before![]() | After![]() |
Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 also lets you select and print any image on your PC, perfectly trim images, correct images using lab-quality retouching features, correct red-eye, smooth facial lines and skin tone, sharpen faces, remove blemishes, and print in a variety of sizes and layouts.
Along with a wide variety of plain and photo papers, the ip5000 also accepts envelopes and transparencies. The dual paper path allows you to print two-sided documents or simply store photo papers in one tray and plain paper in the other.

Great pinter... if you can find one anymore!

In the past I always went with Epson. But the last Epson I had was junk so thought I'd try Canon. What a great machine the ip 5000 is. I print QSL cards on it using a thicker stock and they look great. Day-to-day printing is good as well. The price per printed page is very low as the ink is about the cheapest of any out there. I like that it has both a cassette feed for quick printing and a auto top feeder for other types of stock such as photo paper. It prints boarder-less and not all printers will do that, it looks great! It was easy to share with both my desktop and our laptop. Ever once in a while I hve to run the head alignment utility and the head cleaning utility but that puts it right back like new. The initial cost was cheap as well, so what's not to like??
Great Print, Poor Quality

Purchased in November 2005 which makes it less than 16 months old. Was getting orange error code lite that blinked 14 times, not even in the book. Emailed customer service and they were real nice and provided wrong solution via email but were good enough to provide me with a toll free number that costs 9.95 per chat. On to the internet where I found that the orange lite that blinks 14 times says a problem with paper feed cam sensor. Wrote back to customer service asking if a little compressed air would help and they said try it. They also said they would let me purchase another one at discounted price, big of them. Had always had good luck with Epson, think I'll pass on their offer and get another Epson. Good luck.
Excellent picture and document quality!

Not sure why others have had issues with this printer but I have been 100% satisfied. I have printed more than 300 professional quality 4x6 photos from my IP5000 and am printing more as I write this review. I came to Amazon.com this evening to order more ink for my printer actually! This will be the 3rd set of ink cartridges that I've went through, second after the original ones that came with the printer. The printer is very efficient with ink as well. I have printed at least 20+ letter sized (8.5x11) photos from it on the past two cartrides as well. One nice feature is that the document, black and white, print jobs are handled by a separate cartridge so you will always have the ability to print documents in case you forget to order your photo printing cartridges.
I did see that someone (earlier review) is replacing their cartridges for less than $17 but I don't think that's possible with Canon branded ink. Canon branded ink is the least expensive of the major brands but I've never seen that great of a deal online.
I use Canon ink and paper and have printed many documents and photos with no issues for the past 2 years on my IP5000. Bottom line, the best printer I've ever owned! Next one is the Canon PRO9000 ($499)
I shoot photos with a Canon 30D with L glass and touch them up in Photoshop CS2. I'm no professional by any means but I do demand quality prints from my shots and this IP 5000 delivers everyday.
Good day!
Doesn't Last

I bought this based upon the reviews here last year. So much for community info. It has already started "banding" in less than a year. A new print head is about $125. It clogs very often, possibly because I use cheap ink from "Printpal." Maybe it would do better with Canon ink, but I never tried it. The separate color cartridges are a plus. This is the first time I tried Canon. I'm going to go back to HP and try a Laser printer to replace this useless piece of $#^*.
great start, dissappointing finish

Loved the print quality, speed, cost per page.
Now my second one has failed with the same problem as the first (both lasted less than a year).
Photos all look green, tried replacing all the ink cartridges. If you're like me and don't have the time or patience to mess around with warranties etc. you may want to look elsewhere.
