The Vialta VistaFrame offers a great way to display all your favorite memories directly from a digital media card, without the need for a computer, camera, or USB reader. Compatibile with five popular memory-card formats--CompactFlash Type 1, SmartMedia, SecureDigital, MultiMedia Card, and Memory Stick--the VistaFrame lets you view images directly from the cards or from internal memory.
The VistaFrame manages up to 500 images per card directory and lets you save eight favorite images to an internal memory ("My Album") for later viewing. Setup is easy--all that's required is an AC power adapter (included). The VistaFrame goes into power-saver mode after an hour of inactivty; a built-in motion sensor "awakens" the display, or you can just press a button or insert a memory card to resume viewing images.

Bad Out of the Box

I can't speak to how well the product performs because mine was DOA. Customer Service was unable to do anything over the phone. Since it was purchased as a gift and I had time before Christmas, I opted for a different brand. Doesn't inspire confidence in their quality control when a unit fails to start up fresh out of the box.
Easy to use but poor resolution

This product is extremely user-friendly and great for my parents who are not very tech-oriented. It is easy to slip the digital camera card directly into the frame, but the process of scrolling through and viewing photos is quite slow. The biggest disappointment is the screen resolution. The only photos that look good are close-ups. It would also be nice if there was the option to connect it to a computer to transfer images that way and if it had more internal memory capacity (only stores 8 photos).
Poor picture quality

I was very excited to see this frame, and thought that would be a perfect gift for a fellow geek. I was extremely disappointed to see poor the picture quality - it looked like the photos were taken using one of the first generation digital cameras that came on the market some 10 years ago. The resolution was similar to my first palm pilot (IIIx), just enlarged.
I sent it back after trying to get it to display pictures where you could actually see peoples faces. I believe that the pictures of this device showing colorful and detailed images were doctored or transposed to make this product look better.
Highly recommend! Great gift idea.

I love the Vista Frame so much, I've just ordered 3 more for family gifts. All the original problems listed in the reviews have been fixed by the manufacturer. If the frame goes into sleep mode (overnight when no motion is sensed), it wakes up and goes right back into slideshow mode without having to restart with the menu buttons. The color is great and the photos are viewable from all angles. I haven't experienced any flickering problems.
My digital camera allows me to upload photos from my pc hardrive onto the compact flash card so I was able to create cards with different groups of pictures for different family members.
This digital frame would make an excellent gift!
