Description
The CanoScan N676U scanner is a truly remarkable addition to your home or workplace. Its intelligent, state-of-the-art features save you time, and the unbelievable price can save you money. Its sleek styling and handsome, high-tech metallic finish look great on any desktop. And the results you'll achieve are simply spectacular. At just over one inch high, the N676U scanner is one of the smallest flatbed scanners in the world. It's also one of the easiest to set up and use. Connect with just a single USB cable to any compatible Mac or PC - no power cord or bulky transformers are necessary. Then scan, copy or e-mail your images in just one step using the three convenient external buttons. You can even burn complete photos onto CDs with ease. So it's easier than ever to take advantage of this scanner's full capabilities: remarkable 48-bit and 600 x 1200 dpi resolution that gives you over 281-trillion possible colors for richer, more robust scans. The accompanying stand allows you to stand up the N670U scanner to make room on your desk, and still use it to scan at anytime.Canon's advanced Z-Lid Expansion Top will forever change the way you scan bulky items, such as books and magazines. Other scanner covers lift only at an angle and become uneven and awkward when scanning anything that isn't completely flat. The N676U scanner cover includes a special expansion hinge that lifts vertically and lays flat to create the space needed for bulky items, and to help ensure clear scans.
Featuring a unique Z-lid design, the CanoScan N676U combines a slim 1.4-inch depth with the capability to easily scan images from bulky originals such as books and magazines. No matter what thickness the original, the 600 x 1,200 dpi resolution and 48-bit color provide crisp detail and richness to all scans, with a maximum size of 8.5 by 11.7 inches.
The one-touch design allows home users to print, copy, or send scanned images via e-mail, while the single power cord keeps your desktop free of clutter. Canon provides a one-year warranty that covers parts and labor.

Great inexpensive scanner

Had to dump my 4 year old Umax when I was unable to get the latest drivers for Windows XP. I had my doubt's as to what you get in this [less expensive]scanner, but I can tell you I was not disappointed! Was up and running in a matter of minutes and I really like having just the one USB cable to deal with. Unit scans at good rate of speed and the quality of the scans is fine for most applications. Overall, I am very pleased with this scanner and would not hesitate to reccommend it to anyone.
Excellent Value

I purchased an N676U for a budget system I built for a family friend. I had the system set up within 10 minutes. Truly easy to setup and easy to use, especially with Windows XP.
The N676U comes with all the hardware and software needed to get up and running, including a USB cable and all the software you need. Even computer beginners should be able to set this up. One BIG plus is that the scanner is actually powered by the USB cable! This is genius in my book (no seperate power cord/ugly power brick required)! I mean, who doesn't already have a mess of cables hidden behind their computers? Like I said, truly plug and play. Plug the USB cable in, install the necessary software, and you should be ready to go.
The scan resolution is relatively low (compared to entry-pro scanners), but then again, this system is not designed for professional graphic designers, it's for casual users who just want to scan pictures quickly and easily. Overall, a great piece of hardware that I would recommend to anyone looking for a quick scan on a budget.
A very good scanner - can not beat for the money

Very good scanner. Can not beat for the money. True Plug and play (Not like some stuff I have bought that says plug and play and hours later your still in the plug stage)lol. Very slim and not obtrusive. Slick design. Nice quality. Thumbs up.
IT BROKE 1 YEAR. STINKS. WILL NOT WORK. I USED IT VERY LITTLE TO SCAN. BUMMER. BUY AT OWN RISK.
Just What I Needed

I have had this scanner for about four months now and use it nearly every day with great satisfaction. It is easy to use and gives great results. I love the size of it too as it fits well into a small space.
Windows XP compatible: )

I was a little skeptic when I ordered it, not sure whether it is compatible with Windows XP. To my surprise, it did include a driver CD for Windows XP. Unfortunately, it seesm to be the basic driver, I still need to download the newest TWAIN drivers from their website.
Once setup, this scanner is pretty easy to use and the scan quality is pretty good. The software package that came with it is just so so, but adaquet. Once you installed the TWAIN driver, you can just use your own softwares like Photoshop for more advanced graphics editing.
The whole unit is very thin, looks pretty nice from the outside. The connection between the lid and the flatbed is weak, so probably need to be careful with it. And it makes strange sound when you turn on the computer.
