Description
Discovery 312 Zoom Date is a versatile camera that lets you take the pictures you want. Select standard or panoramic photos with the flick of a switch - even in the middle of a roll. The camera features Fujinon Super EBC 38 - 120mm, f/5.6 - 9.9 (3.2x) zoom lens, and drop-in film loading system with automatic film prewinding. It provides multi-mode auto flash with red-eye reduction, and a variety of shooting modes, including continuous shooting, landscape and night portrait modes. Discovery 312 Zoom Date has a sequential self-timer, and optional shutter remote control. It also offers quartz date/time imprinting option.
Fuji's Discovery 312 Date 38-120mm zoom camera measures just 5.25 by 2.87 by 2.31 inches, but is packed with choices that help you capture the world around you. Focus on objects near or far by using the Fujinon Super EBC 38- 120mm, f/5.6 to f/9.9 zoom lens. The real-image viewfinder offers a preview of the image you'll be capturing. The active infrared autofocus system has 626 focus zones and can focus on images as close as 2.3 feet.
The built-in flash can be switched off at any time and has a range of up to 13.2 feet, an automatic mode, a fill-in mode, and a red-eye reduction feature. The camera has a night portrait mode, landscape mode, continuous shooting option with sequential self-timer, and the option to switch picture format from standard to panorama, even in the middle of a roll of film. This model in the Discovery line can use film from ISO 50 to 3,200. The film is drop-in loaded and is advanced and rewinded automatically by your camera. The quartz date and time imprinting can be switched on and off.

Exciting features, disappointing performance

I received this camera as a gift about 5 years ago. I love the ability to take a panoramic shot here and there. It is good for large family shots where you are trying to fit everyone in. I also enjoy the remote control. We used it a lot on our honeymoon. That's the good side.
On the down side, the film advance and zoom are VERY loud. Don't expect to use it in a quiet setting like a wedding. The view finder does not accurately represent the picture; it seems to be offcenter. Because of this, you have to be VERY careful when focusing to make sure that you are getting the *right* part of the view finder on the subject that you want to focus on. In addition, I can't hand off my camera to someone else to take the picture, because it is never in focus. Never was able to get this fixed.
I have "learned" to be able to take decent pictures with it, but even I miss it sometimes...and it is always on the really cute pictures. I have been limping along with it mostly because it worked good enough to tolerate all the "lost" good pictures.
We are now expecting a baby, and I want to be able to get good pictures for myself and to be able to have others take good pictures with it too. So we are shopping for a replacement...Finally...Allelujia!
Risky

I just got this camera and was first delighted by all the features it carries within an acceptable price. However, after careful observation, it seems that this camera's design is old and technology outdated since 1993 (this is the default start date set by the camera itself, which makes it risky). Also, it doesnt run smooth and I've heard bad things about Fuji's customer service as mentioned by others. I am disappointed and plan to return it back for an exchange. You are better off with a Nikon 90 QD/120 ED or, if you can afford, a Canon Rebel.
This is a sincere advice: Don't buy this brand!

This is the best camera we've ever owned! The timer and remote finctions enable us to take pictures with both of us actually in them! Versatile, easy to use and very reliable.
