Description
Canon's range of binoculars brings the world within your reach. High-quality Canon optics in every model provides excellent edge-to-edge contrast and sharpness. All models feature environmentally friendly lead-free glass and a rubberized non-slip grip for easy handling, indoors or out. Small, lightweight 8x23A binoculars use aspherical lens technology for superb optical performance including improved image resolution at 8x magnification. Four lens elements ensure a clear, sharp image across the field.
The compact Canon 8x23A binoculars are ideal for hiking or bird watching. The 8x magnification is more than adequate for most circumstances--higher magnification levels are harder to compensate for, leading to a lot of shaking and twitching.
The 8x23A's rugged exterior helps protect from accidental bumps drops. Nitrogen-filled construction protects the optics from fogging or damage. The multicoated Canon optics include an aspheric element to help increase sharpness and contrast.

Best bang for the buck!

I bought 3 binoculars as X'mas gifts this year. Each has almost the same price tags from Nikon, Olympus and Canon. I tried them on to compare before I gave them away. And without a doubt, these Canon came away a winnner from the other two. The sight is cleaner and brighter. Not taking away from the other two, they are also clear and bright. But when compared with Canon, these one blew them away. And to think this is the cheapest of the lot.
Just the right size!

I own several pairs of binoculars and these are my favorite! They are small as noted by several of the other reviewers, but there really isn't any reason why this should be an issue. The optics are great that the adjustments are easy. These have a permanent place in my daypack and get used several times each week.
Four years later (2008) - Still my favorite binoculars! They go from the shooting range to the live theater with ease and do their job wonderfully. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.
Great for travelling

We bought these binoculars at the last minute for our trip to Costa Rica. They are perfect for travelling as they are very light and compact. They were perfect for viewing wildlife, birds and scenery. We were very glad that we made this purchase prior to our trip. I definitely recommend these if you are looking for binoculars that are easy to use and carry.
unusable

I had to return mine. Maybe they were defective, but unless I held them "just so" I experienced huge brightness shifts and blackouts. Recommend sampling optics in stores before buying online.
***Lesson learned: "Compact" and "Small"

I just received and returned these the same day. Somehow I didn't expect binoculars the size of a paperback. Don't get me wrong ... They look like great binoculars. It is just that I didn't equate the words "compact", and "small" with dinky. My bad :) So, I thought I'd share my experience to help you avoid repeating my mistake. If you are looking for small binoculars, you should definitely consider these. If you are looking for standard sized binoculars do not order these.
