Description
The PC 920 is a small copier with advanced features. It will copy 10 A4 pages per minute, and has multiple paper feeding, using an easily accessible 250 sheet front loading cassette and manual feeder. The enlargement/reduction and zoom functions incorporate preset ratios of 70%, 81%, 100%, 115% and 141% and zoom capability in 1% increment between 70% to 141%. In addition, the PC920 can produce as many 100 copies at a time. For added flexibility, it can copy on a variety of sizes and media. The PC920 offers time-saving, low maintenance operation with Canon's exclusive Single Cartridge System. This system contains virtually all the copier parts that can wear out including the drum, development unit and toner. This results in maximum copy quality at a low cost per copy. You also get the convenience of replacing an all-in-one cartridge that's virtually maintenance free.
The Canon PC920 personal copier delivers just what most small offices need: a sturdy design, simple walk-up operation, and strong performance for rapid-fire daily use. Although Canon bills the PC920 as a desktop copier, it's probably a bit large for most desks, occupying the space of a large laser printer.
Out-of-the-box assembly with this copier could not be easier. All we had to do to was snap on the paper catcher and remove the sealing strip from the starter cartridge (which comes installed in the copier so you can see where it goes. The unit opens with a release lever on the left side and tilts up about 45 degrees. Once the copier is open, the toner cartridge simply slides in from the front with no levers or tricky procedures. The starter cartridge included with the PC920 is good for 2,000 copies, and standard replacements last for 4,000 copies.
The PC920 is rated at 10 copies per minute for normal letter-size operation, and our testing yielded exactly that rate. This model uses Canon's RAPID Fusing system--a feature that ensures the copier is instantly available without warm-up. This is a nice plus that makes "quick copies" even quicker than with many other models.
A versatile cassette tray slides into the front of the unit and accepts a variety of paper sizes, all the way up to legal. A single-page feeder on the right side of the PC920 accepts special stock such as transparencies and labels, and its adjustable paper guides accept media as small as business cards.
You can adjust the zoom ratio from 70 to 141 percent by one-percent increments. The control panel is quite simple, featuring five preset zoom levels, three-digit LED display, and a slider for exposure adjustment. With its intuitive operation and good mainstream speed, the Canon PC920 is well suited for any home or small-office environment.
Pros:
- RAPID Fusing system offers instant operation
- Flexible media handling
- Self-contained, single-unit cartridge
Cons:
- Limited reduction
- Handles only 1 page of special stock at a time only
This speedy and quiet copier is quite a little workhorse in small or home offices. The PC920 utilizes Canon's patented one-cartridge system, which places the toner, drum, and development all in one easy-to-change cartridge. Automatic shutoff kicks in after five minutes of nonuse, but with the standard Rapid Fusing System, you'll never waste time waiting for it to warm up. The 250-sheet tray can use standard paper, transparencies, card stock, or labels, all of which are processed at approximately 10 pages per minute. Originals can be any size from postcard to legal, and up to 4 inches thick. Automatic settings for zoom, photo, and toner saver let users choose the appropriate amount of exposure for their items; under normal use, the cartridge lasts for an impressive 4,000 copies. Canon includes a three-year warranty on this copier, which also covers instant exchange service.
