Description
Canon BJC-80 portable printer is an ideal traveling companion. You get big inkjet printer performance from this small unit. The BJC-80 outputs black text at a fast five pages per minute (ppm), and color at two ppm, both at resolutions of 720 x 360 dots per inch (dpi). Canon includes some powerful printing technology in this portable printer. Its Drop Modulation Technology provides crisp, black text and rich, vivid color. The Canon BJC-80 is not only a powerful portable printer, it also quickly converts into a sheetfeed scanner. Simply insert Canon's optional Color Image Scanner Cartridge and the BJC-80 is scanning documents into your computer in minutes. For added convenience, the BJC-80 includes an IrDA wireless interface for cable free printing. It's powered by either an included AC power cord, or optional rechargeable batteries with power to print up to 200 pages.
For exceptionally portable printing options, the Canon BJC-80 offers all you could ask for wrapped in one very sleek package. Advanced printing technologies smooth black edges and separate colors for supreme legibility and exquisitely clear images; print speeds of 4 ppm black and 2 ppm color are on the slow side, but the final results are worth the wait. A 760 x 300 dpi supplies dense, true coloration on envelopes, high-gloss film, photo paper, plain paper or transparencies, on any size sheet up to 8.5 by 14 inches.
Weighing just over three pounds, the black case snaps shut and can be tucked right in your laptop's carrying case. Additional optional accessories like the portable power pack or scanner kit will expand the BJC-80's capabilities to that of your home printer, while the included 30-sheet input tray allows you to keep media organized even while on the go. Canon includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

Just had to order a new cartridge holder for the color ink, but it is still going strong. I took it out of storage as I need it on the road. It's a great printer and light. I have backup battery. Can't use infared as current laptop does not have it. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

i've been using one of these robust little printing contraptions, on again off again, in vanilla mode (black ink only and no batteries), for years. most BJC-80 probs are home fixable and are related to ink catridge and/or printhead drying; a Q-Tip, a little alcohol and test printing (for head cleaning purposes) usually saves the day. the black ink cartridges are relatively economical and they can be home refilled for more economy yet. the BJC-80 is the model-T of portable printers and it is very portable, indeed. a a good solution for hands on people who travel and need hard copy
Piece of Junk

As I read prior reviews I was amazed to find that they comment so positively on durability as my experience was exactly the opposite. Last year I purchased two of these and both stopped functioning within a month. In both cases was a mechanical problem where motor and drive mechanism which moved print head stopped functioning properly....would try to print but print head stayed stuck in start up position.
Like most people who travel enough to need a portable printer I am too busy to stay on hold for 20 minutes on help line or argue with someone at Staples why I no longer have box on something I want to return or exchange.
I would steer clear of this one....however for what little time it did work it does print very good quality. It is light, very compact and frankly I thought print speed was more than acceptable. Only problem was occasional jam on feed ....if it would actually work would be a fantastic piece of equipment.

This little portable, dual-voltage printer has lasted and lasted. I use it in Africa in our Bible training school and it has never let me down. It prints handouts, overhead transparencies and course completion certificates with ease and clarity. As far as carrying it in my suitcase on the plane, there's no problem because the lid closes and it makes a hard-shell case. My BJC-80 comes with a parallel port, but for $35.00 or so you can buy a cable that will adapt it to a USB port.
USED IT HARD FOR 3 YEARS AND CAN'T KILL IT. :)

This is probably the most incredible & durable piece of electronic equiptment I've ever owned. It's like the Bunny in the battery commercials....keeps going...and going...and going.
I save on ink by buying bulk ink and refilling the black ink containers with a syring, rotating 3 of these. I have only had to replace the printer head 1 time. I have used the parallel cable for my connection, but will try the infrared with my new computer. Previously (3 years ago) , the infrared connection would not work...but likely due to new drivers, etc. Truly one TOUGH road warrier printer!
